This was another day filled with possible management issues. It was very practical and helped a great deal with thoughts about becoming an administrator. The situations presented today definitely made me think about some of the difficult sides of becoming an administrator.
The situation my group discussed was about a staff member who committed suicide in the school. It was a depressing and very challenging topic to talk about. However, it created good conversations and really made our group think about how to handle this situation especially in a very limited time condition.
The mock press conference was good and the participants did a really good job. I can see how the press could try to work you to get information and that in many cases less is more until all of the information can be disseminated. Keeping cool in these situations would be challenging but absolutely necessary.
I appreciated the practical nature of this class. We have had many classes about the less hands on aspects of administration, but this one had real world value and will be one that we will relate to in our job on a daily basis.
I think that our practical experiences are the most beneficial, those exercises really put things into perspective, even if they are challenging.
